Mr. McInnis is a partner in Ross, Dixon & Bell, LLP’s Orange County, California office. Before joining the firm in 1992, Mr. McInnis served as managing editor of the Columbia Journal of Law and Social Problems and worked as a law clerk for The Honorable John T. Nixon, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee. After practicing law in the firm’s Washington, DC office for several years, Mr. McInnis relocated to Orange County where he has practiced since 1998. He has served as Chair of the Professionals’, Officers’ and Directors’ Liability Committee of the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section, and is a Vice Chair of that Section’s Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee. He has been a member of the State Bar of California’s Committee on State Bar Approved Professional Liability Insurance, and serves as an arbitrator for the Orange County Bar Association’s Mandatory Fee Arbitration Committee. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Insurance Litigation Reporter.
Mr. McInnis’s practice focuses on the representation of insurance companies in coverage/bad faith litigation in connection with primary and excess directors & officers, employment practices liability, errors & omissions, and miscellaneous professional liability policies, and liability policies issued to nonprofit organizations and associations. Mr. McInnis also provides pre-litigation counseling and advice to insurance clients regarding complex coverage and claims-handling issues.
In addition to his insurance coverage practice, Mr. McInnis maintains a general civil and commercial litigation practice in which he has represented clients in a wide range of disputes involving intellectual property, employment/wrongful termination, environmental defense, accountants professional liability, contractual disputes, and First Amendment and related concerns.
Mr. McInnis is AV® Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell, and was ranked in the 2007 Chambers USA: America’s Leading Business Lawyers guide as one of the leading insurance attorneys in California.
