Gary Dixon is a partner in Ross, Dixon & Bell, LLP’s Washington, DC office.

Gary founded the firm in 1983 with six other attorneys from Hogan & Hartson, where he specialized in litigation and insurance matters. Gary is a recognized expert in matters pertaining to directors and officers liability insurance and other forms of professional liability coverage. He has represented insurers in thousands of matters pertaining to professional liability insurance during the past 30 years, including many of their highest profile and most significant matters. Gary has litigated cases on behalf of insurers in trial and appellate courts throughout the country. He counsels insurance clients regularly with respect to claims and underwriting matters. Gary has lectured and written articles about directors and officers liability insurance issues and exposures faced by directors and officers.

Chambers USA has written about Gary’s “tremendous reservoir of knowledge,” “wealth of experience,” and “practical business sense.” In Chambers USA (2007), he was described as “the best in the business” of professional liability insurance. He earned a national ranking in Insurance from Chambers, which wrote, “Indeed, clients are so impressed with him, they declare: ‘He sets the tone for the entire firm.’”

Gary currently represents insurers in matters involving backdating stock options, subprime lending, private equity buyouts, ERISA stock drop cases, employment discrimination, insurance industry contingent commissions, criminal and regulatory investigations, and a variety of coverage litigation. He has represented insurers in connection with more than 500 securities class actions and hundreds of derivative actions. Gary represents insurers in dozens of mediations each year.
