Tuesday
Morning
8:15 a.m. I’m up and dressed for the deposition workshop. I run through my questions a few times in my hotel room to make sure I’m ready for game time.
9:00 a.m. Breakfast is served in the conference room. I’ll stick with coffee this morning.
9:30 a.m. We begin our deposition workshop. Associate Prashant Khetan serves as judge and provides feedback on our performance. We start by defending the deposition of our client, the doctor accused of malpractice. This is a great opportunity to practice standard objections. Then, we depose the plaintiff. Our questions are aimed at trying to show how the plaintiff assumed the risk of our client’s services and how he was also negligent in failing to keep our client informed.
Afternoon
12:30 p.m. We have some lunch while we watch a presentation on the benefits of utilizing deposition services to organize and use depositions effectively at trial.
1:30 p.m. Back to the hotel. I need to read some cases and write my arguments for the motion workshop tomorrow morning. I’ll be arguing a motion to dismiss for plaintiff’s failure to bring his claim within the time proscribed by the statute of limitations. In addition, I’ll be opposing a motion in limine.
4:30 p.m. It’s time for the summer associates to take a break and head over to Lucky Strike for dinner and some bowling. I certainly don’t impress anyone with my bowling skills, but it’s a blast nonetheless.
9:30 p.m. I arrive back at the hotel, and there’s still much to be done before tomorrow’s oral arguments. I hop to it.
11:00 p.m. I need to get some rest if I want to be quick on my toes in the morning, so I hit the hay.
