A Week in the Life of Nina Santiago
Friday
Morning 9:10 a.m. I arrive at my desk. There are two weekly things I look forward today: bagels and donuts in the fourth floor kitchen, and the casual dress code. I settle in and work on entering my time from the day before. 9:35 a.m. Another summer, Selina Spinos, e-mails the rest of the summer associates to remind us that the office is collecting school supplies for low-income children today.
9:45 a.m. I go upstairs to the fourth floor kitchen to pick up a donut, and pass by Selina’s office to say hello.
10:00 a.m. A few of the other summers and I walk across the street to CVS to buy school supplies for today’s collection.
10:20 a.m. I return to my desk, wrap up my time-entry from yesterday, and continue working on my piece of the 50-state survey.
11:45 a.m. I e-mail our Lexis representative to see if he has found any potentially helpful leads regarding my FOIA research assignment.
Noon. I attend a farewell luncheon for the summer associates in the main conference room. I enjoy plenty of great food and talk to some of the other summers in addition to some associates and partners.
Afternoon 1:10 p.m. I return to my desk and notice that our Lexis representative has e-mailed me back to let me know that he has not found any helpful cases or materials for my FOIA assignment. He plans on trying a few more searches, but is not hopeful that he will find anything. I e-mail Jonathan an update, and then spend the rest of the afternoon working on the survey.
5:30 p.m. I head home and meet my boyfriend for dinner. I’m looking forward to the weekend, because I have plans to see several friends, including one visiting from out-of-town, for dinner and drinks in Adams Morgan on Saturday night.
