A Week in the Life of Brad Liggett
Wednesday
August 1, 2007: First thing this morning was the weekly Summer Associate lecture series. On Wednesdays, all of the Summer Associates from the Orange County, San Diego, Chicago, and Washington DC.offices meet with RDB attorneys via teleconference to learn about RDB’s history and primary practice areas. Since the lecture series is in the morning for those of us on the west coast, RDB provides us with a nice breakfast. This week, we talked about the firm’s employment practice. The practice sounded really interesting and I hope that I get to work on some employment cases at RDB in the future.
We tried to reach our pro bono client by phone to introduce ourselves and arrange a meeting with her but were unable to do so. We decided that I would draft an initial contact letter to her and after I had done so, I had it approved by the other attorneys on the case. Since our client’s native language is Spanish, I then translated the letter into Spanish and we sent it off.
On Wednesdays we also have our weekly attorney lunch, where all of the attorneys get together in the conference room to eat and chat. These lunches have been a great way for me to get to know the attorneys in the Orange County office, especially those that I haven’t had the chance to work with yet.
After lunch, I started working on a new project for Kim Orbeck, an associate. The project is unique in that it is a client development project. I was assigned to do some research in a new area of insurance law and we will then present the findings to an insurance client.
After work a bunch of us got together at a nearby park to play some hoops—another Wednesday tradition. After showing off my skills on the court, I was really worn out and ready to go home.
