A Week in the Life of Brad Liggett
Thursday
August 2, 2007: Today was the annual RDB golf event. We met at the driving range for one last chance to hone our swing before the big “best ball” tourney. We met up for lunch at the clubhouse with a few people from the San Diego office, including the San Diego summer associates. After lunch, we split off into four-person teams. I was excited because I was paired with Ryan Tuley, the best golfer in the Orange County office. We call him Tiger for short.
Our team played really well on the course. The highlight of my day was when I decided to tee off while the group ahead of us was still on the fairway. Thinking that the team was well out of my driver’s range, I let 'er rip, only to be horrified seconds later when my ball was heading straight for Daniel Rashtian, who is my attorney mentor this summer. Luckily, the ball landed a few yards ahead of Dan, who eventually forgave me for my errant shot.
Our team ended up shooting three over par at the end of the round but we couldn’t make a putt to save our lives! If we had handled the putter a little better, we would have scored under par for the round. We were the second group finished and soon learned that everyone besides the last group scored three over. Unfortunately, the last group scored even par and took home the prize. It was too bad; I thought we would have a multi-team tie and force the tourney into a sudden death playoff!
After the tournament, we went to Terry McInnis’s house, which was a big, beautiful home near the golf course, for a catered dinner. There was plenty of food and drinks to go around. We all had a good time telling stories and laughing about how I almost hit Dan with my tee shot. After a couple of hours at Terry’s we called it a night and headed home.
