Welcome from Kim Orbeck, Orange County Assignment Coordinator

I’m Kim Orbeck, and I will be the summer associate assignment coordinator for the Orange County office this summer. I was a summer associate at RDB after my second year of law school.
As the assignment coordinator, I hope to provide you with practical work experience that will be interesting and give you exposure to a variety of practice areas and attorneys at the firm. In particular, I will try to give you the chance to undertake real world litigation tasks – such as drafting portions of briefs and meeting with clients – and observe RDB attorneys at oral argument, depositions and other related litigation opportunities. In addition, reflecting the firm’s strong pro bono commitment, I will try to assign you at least one pro bono case to manage on your own during the summer, with guidance from an RDB attorney.

To help you with your summer associate experience, each summer associate is assigned both an associate mentor and a partner reader. Your associate mentor is there to help you with the day-to-day questions (such as how things operate in the Orange County office) and the more substantive questions (such as how to best research and write about legal issues). The partner reader will read all of your written work product and provide comments to help you better develop your skills as a writer.

As you might guess, in addition to the work aspect of your summer, we always plan some great social activities so that you can get to know us outside of the office and get a chance to explore Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Last summer, we spent the weekend in Las Vegas, played in a golf tournament near Laguna Beach, rented a skybox at an Angels game, and participated in a Habitat for Humanity build in Santa Ana, among other fun events.

If you’re interested in joining RDB’s summer associate program, please send your resume to sclifton@rdblaw.com.
