Professional Development & Advocacy
RDB provides our attorneys with ongoing legal education in the substantive areas of our practice and in litigation and trial skills. Our lawyers take part in a regular series of lectures and demonstrations presented by senior lawyers at the firm, visiting law professors, judges, other court personnel, and firm clients. Like the orientation program for new associates, these presentations span the full spectrum of the firm’s substantive practice areas.
Our relatively modest size and commitment to the professional growth of our lawyers combine to give junior attorneys opportunities for responsibility, under appropriate supervision, that associates in larger firms may wait much longer to enjoy. While such opportunities depend on the needs of a particular case and the lawyer’s readiness to handle the task, junior and mid-level associates at our firm traditionally have had the chance to meet directly with major clients, participate in the formulation of litigation strategy, take depositions, appear in court, and participate in mediations and settlement conferences.
Finally, we take on selected contingency and reduced-fee cases that, together with our program of pro bono work, provide new lawyers opportunities to appear in court, take and defend depositions, and put other litigation skills into practice.
